Between November 3–5, 2017, the Palace of Culture hosted the Pain Conference, where over the course of three days 32 speakers and 248 participants explored the biological, psychological, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of pain, with an emphasis on its complex significance for human experience.
Pain Conference

The conference focused on a multidisciplinary approach to pain, examining the topic from medical, psychological, sociological, and cultural perspectives. Following the opening session, participants gained insight into the physiological, genetic, and immunological background of pain, and then explored how pain is expressed in human culture and the arts. The program was enriched with literary and dance performances, as well as short films.
In the following days, the focus shifted to neurological pain, practical challenges in pain management, and specific types of pain. Parallel workshops provided participants with the opportunity to discuss in depth the issues most relevant to their fields. On the final day, the sociocultural, legal, and spiritual dimensions of pain were highlighted, demonstrating that the experience of pain goes beyond physical suffering and carries profound emotional and societal significance. The event concluded with artistic performances and closing reflections.
