On April 23, the Szent Balázs Foundation organized a new Többletelő evening in Târgu Mureș, welcoming doctors who are dedicated not only to their medical profession but also to civic and community life in Transylvania.
Dr. Melinda Korodi, diabetologist; Dr. Levente Vass, chief urologist and healthcare manager; and Dr. Emmánuel Ladányi, obstetrician-gynecologist, spoke openly about how their experiences in student organizations, volunteer work, and their inner drive to be actively present in the community have shaped their personal and professional paths.
One of the thoughts shared was: “We went to university for science, but the student association was the spice of our academic years.” Through volunteering, they gained deeper insight into the lives and struggles of their patients — a true learning experience. Their civic involvement was not inspired by one particular role model, but rather by the quiet example of those around them: empathy, authenticity, curiosity — values essential both in medicine and in civil society.
A particularly moving reflection was: “I’m not a public figure, just a community person.” The motivation to stay engaged often comes from simple things: knowing that people count on you, that they take something meaningful with them after an event, and the feeling of being able to rest peacefully — because the work was done right.
Once again, the Többletelő evening proved the value of honest dialogue with genuine people about vocation, community, and the power of human presence.
