On October 24–25, the Szent Balázs Foundation organized a training course for volunteers in elderly and patient care, with the participation of 13 young volunteers. The program aimed to prepare participants both professionally and emotionally, helping them engage with empathy and understanding in their future work with elderly and ill individuals.

The first day focused on theoretical and mental preparation.
The program opened with a spiritual reflection led by Fr. András Csaba SJ, Jesuit priest, followed by Dr. Ildikó Vicsi, mentor, who presented the volunteer program plan, explained the responsibilities of volunteers, and led situational exercises.
Dr. Zsuzsanna Sz. Csorvási, mental health specialist, gave two insightful presentations – Understanding Time and Communication Techniques – highlighting the importance of empathy, patience, and genuine human connection.
The day concluded with the personal testimony of Szilvia Tövisi, physiotherapist and former volunteer, who shared her inspiring experiences.

The second day of the training took place at the Lazarenum Foundation’s Elderly Home in Târgu Mureș, where the practical session was coordinated by Marika Kacsó, senior medical assistant. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the institution’s daily routine, its operations, and the practical aspects of elderly care.

The training unfolded in a warm and open atmosphere, and the residents of the home welcomed the young volunteers with joy. We hope this collaboration will bring professional, spiritual, and personal growth for the volunteers and create meaningful, compassionate moments for those in their care—both in the nursing home and in the hospital.
